Faridabad was founded in 1607 by Shaikh Farīd, the treasurer for the Mughal emperor Jahangir, to protect the Grand Trunk Road between Delhi and Agra.
Faridabad got its name after its founder, Shaikh Farid, the treasurer of Jahangir who built a town on Talab road near Gopi Colony (Old Faridabad), where his tomb or maqbara is still there.
It was constituted a municipality in 1867. A project for Pakistani refugee resettlement and light industrial development was initiated in the city in 1950. (source:Wikipedia page)
